"Who Are They?" New King William Candidates Step Up, But What Do They Stand For?
Both newcomers and incumbents compete for District 1 and 5
June 17th at 7pm was the deadline for prospective King William candidates for Supervisor and School Board to turn in their 125 signatures to get on the ballot.
Until the previous King William Board of Supervisors voted in 2023 to stagger the terms, all five districts were up for election every four years.
Now, the West Point (1) and Mangohick (5) Districts are up for reelection after serving a two-year term. Even though our current Board voted to overturn that ordinance last July, it doesn’t go into effect until 2027. District 1 and 5 will serve another 2-year term.
So, who qualified?
DISTRICT 1 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Brenton J. Bohannon- Qualified 4/10/2025
Joseph J. "Bart" Bartos IV- Qualified 6/13/2025
They will face off for the Supervisor seat held by Bill Hodges for the past 10 years.
Bohannon challenged Hodges in the 2023 Board of Supervisor election, losing by 51 votes.
Bartos, West Point Town Council member lost in his bid for reelection in 2024, failing to make it into the top three winning positions by just 11 votes.
*Bill Hodges did not meet the deadline to appear on the ballot, and has not yet responded to a request for comment on his plans to run again.
DISTRICT 5 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Temple Keith Fogg- Qualified 6/10/2025
Mary Sue Bancroft- Qualified 6/11/2025
Robert Nick Atkins- Qualified 6/17/2025
Mr. Fogg is the Vice Chair of the King William Democratic Committee and active Democratic activist for national, state and local elections.
Current Supervisor and former Treasurer Mary Sue Bancroft is vying for a second term to serve 5th District.
Nick Atkins, a newcomer who barely made the 7pm deadline on June 17th, also seeks a chance at the Board.
DISTRICT 1 SCHOOL BOARD (AT LARGE)
Veda Gresham Frazier- Qualified 5/21/2025
Current Chair, Ms. Frazier is running unopposed to maintain her seat on the School Board, a position she has held since 2007.
DISTRICT 5 SCHOOL BOARD
Patricia H. Atkins- Qualified 6/13/2025
Despite legal controversy surrounding her first term, Ms. Atkins is running again, this time unopposed.
